Dreaming of The Future.

Quote, Wall Art, Message, Dream, Achieve  This is a very important phrase because when we have dreams for the future, it gives us a path we can follow in life.

Dreams help us set goals.  Dreams help us figure out how to accomplish those goals.  This blog is one of the ways I have to accomplish my goal of becoming a writer.

Yes I have several ideas I want to turn into books but I don't always have the time right now to do it.  Instead, I keep a diary with the story ideas for when I make the time.

I also have several nonfiction books I want to write.  I have started those but I keep getting distracted by my day job. Yes, I allow myself to get distracted.

I still want to get a job as a stewardess for one of the local airlines.  I've discovered that I can get hired once I retire from my current job. I wanted to be a stewardess beginning in seventh grade but life interrupted and that had to be put on the back burner.  Imagine how excited I got when I discovered that age is no longer as much a factor as it was when I was young.

In addition, I want to start two different businesses. One is to design and make hats while the other is to create unique jewelry that people will demand.  I've got the patterns already for the hats with much of the business plans figured out.  As for the jewelry?  Well, I've got some ideas, I just have to figure out the mechanics to see if I can do it.

I plan to open a youtube channel for some of my educational ideas.  I am aware, I will have to create a following an provide something a bit different so I stand out.  I love creating greenscreen videos for use in my classroom.

I think dreams give us hope when life gets too real.  Dreams give us that push we need to keep going because dreams are the what if for a time that has not yet arrived.  The future is filled with so many possibilities.  Sometimes too many possibilities.

I often feel like a puppy as I bounce back and forth between the things I want to do.  I am not going to quit my job to pursue these possibilities because I need the security of having enough savings to survive pursuing my dreams.

I know people quit and head off around the world but I've had too many experiences where I was working multiple jobs to survive and at that point I had no insurance.  I was happy, I never got sick or I would have been in severe trouble.

Will I make it in the future as a writer, hat designer, or jewelry artist?  Who knows but it is great that I have these possibilities to pursue.  I love having dreams and I'll have them until I die.

Let me know what you think.  I'd love to hear.

Can I be a ......?

Auto, Car, Sports Car, Cobra, ShelbyOver the summer, I get to watch a lot more movies and television shows.  I even get caught up on some of the current movies.  You know what?  I'm a dreamer, just like many others in the world.  As I watch movies, I picture myself as one of the characters.  You know the one!  I love characters that are nerdy or who can kick rear!  I know that is a contradiction but I want to be that character.

Woman, Cold, Hat, Character, GlassesI saw Fast and Furious Seven just because it was available!  Yeah, I saw myself driving a car through downtown being chased by the bad guys.  In Taken 3, I had to picture a new character for myself who got arrested for nailing the cop who came into the girls restroom with the gun drawn and no identification......LOL.

I think many of us identify with certain characters in books or TV series or movies.  Perhaps it's because we don't think we have exciting lives.  Maybe because we see instant results that we did something good?  Perhaps its because we have that hidden desire to be a hero!

Our dreams are almost like being in "The Secret Life of Walter Middy."  We have those same dreams, desires, but do we really want it to happen?  I don't think so because in most situations, one wrong move and you are dead.  Its living dangerous situations vicariously that appeals to us.

Dreams

Caribbean, Sea, Beach, Holiday, BankWhen I was about 14, there was a guy down the street who was building a trimaran in his back yard.  He had dreams of taking his family on a trip across the pacific and down to places like Samoa, Tahiti, or Yap.

My dad would watch him work on the boat, at little at a time.  I think when we moved into the area, the guy had most of the shell finished but not quite all of it.

Margarita Island, Sunset, BoatAround then, my dad started talking about building a ferro cement boat so we could sail into the sunset towards the pacific islands of Robert Louis Stevenson's life.  He had just finished his English degree while working at Sears full time so he could have a better future for us.

When he first mentioned building a boat out of cement, I could not picture that. At 14, all I knew was that cement was used to put around people's feet when the mob wanted to get rid of someone permanently or it was used in patios.  It honestly blew my mind.

My dad took time to talk about how the boat is built in such a way as to distribute the weight so the boat actually floated.  I even remember my dad going to the book store (this was before online places) to order books on the topic.

Boat, Anchor, Tropical, Water, ChainI think he envisioned us following the stars and stopping at various places to experience all that life and paradise could offer.  I don't know why dad never pursued this particular dream but it was one he had for a couple of years before we moved again.
Lake, Boats, Water, Sailing Boat, Blue

Dad never got the boat of his dreams built and I honestly don't know if the neighbor ever finished his boat.  My sister is the one who bought a lovely sailing boat that she and her husband regularly take out.  She talks about when they retire, selling off their house and heading out into the sunset.

Arrggg

Joshua Tree National Park, Mojave DesertThis week has been horrendous.  I look out my window at rain and fog.  The temperatures keep dropping rather than going up and I keep thinking of going somewhere warm.

Warm like in the southwest.  A place that may have rather high temperatures but the humidity is low enough that it does not feel that hot.  I've been in the mojave where its 105 degrees but didn't feel that hot.  I've also been back east in Pennsylvania where it was 80 degrees out but the humidity was 98 percent and I felt like I was being suffocated to death.

Coast, Shore, Ocean, Water, Sea, RocksI can picture myself walking along the beach with the ocean waves swirling around my feet, eating a snow cone.  Sometimes I pass places that advertise "Hawaiian Snow Cones" I run up and ask for the li hing mui flavor and they shake their heads.

Shaved Ice, Green, Lime, Dessert, SweetThey usually offer the standard flavors like banana, rainbow, strawberry, cherry, lemon, lime, etc.

The only place I've ever gotten the li hing mui flavor is in Hawaii.  Well maybe next time I go to Hilo for the Pow Wow, I'll enjoy it again.

You know there is nothing better than eating a huge snow cone as you walk along the beach.  It keeps you cool and the beach never seems to get too hot because of the gentle wind that blows most of the time.  A breeze, not a wind, a gentle breeze that ruffles your hair much like your mom did when you were a kid.

Sigh!  I'm off to face reality again.  Thank you for letting me share a dream that is keeping me sane for a few more days.
