Summer Foot Care

Summertime often means more time spent barefoot or in sandals, exposing our feet to elements that can cause discomfort and issues. Proper foot care is essential to ensure healthy, happy feet throughout the warmer months.

One of the primary concerns for the summer is sun damage. Just as we protect our faces and bodies from harmful UV rays, our feet require similar attention. Applying sunscreen to the top and bottom of your feet, including ankles, is crucial, especially when spending extended periods outdoors. Additionally, choosing footwear that offers adequate protection,such as closed-toe shoes for hiking or driving, can help shield your feet from the sun.

Hydration is another key aspect of summer foot care. Increased exposure to water, chlorine, and sand can dry out the skin on your feet. Regular moisturizing with a rich foot cream, especially after bathing or swimming, is essential. Look for products containing ingredients like shea butter or aloe vera to deeply hydrate and soothe dry skin.

Foot hygiene is paramount during the summer. Bacteria and fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, making feet susceptible to infections. Wearing clean, breathable socks, and changing them frequently, helps prevent odor and moisture buildup. Thoroughly drying your feet after bathing or swimming is also crucial. Public showers and pool areas should be navigated with caution, as these environments can harbor foot infections.
