Holiday Survival Guide: Tips to Avoid Weight Gain

Free Thanksgiving Dinner Dinner photo and picture

The holiday season, a time for joy, family, and delicious food, can also be a time of weight gain. However, with a little planning and discipline, you can enjoy the festivities without sabotaging your health goals.

Begin with mindful eating. Be aware of portion sizes, especially when indulging in high-calorie treats. Use smaller plates and listen to your body's hunger cues. Eat slowly and savor each bite. This allows your brain to register fullness, preventing overeating. Keep healthy snacks on hand, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and yogurt, to avoid reaching for unhealthy options. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Sometimes, thirst can be mistaken for hunger. Alcoholic beverages are often high in calories and can lead to poor food choices.

Stay active during this time.  Make time for regular exercise, even during the busiest times of the year. Schedule workouts in advance and stick to your plan. Find ways to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine, such as taking walks, going for a bike ride, or dancing. Engage in family-friendly activities like hiking, playing board games, or going for a swim.

Remember to stay motivated during this time. Set achievable goals for the holiday season, such as maintaining your current weight or losing a few pounds. Keep a food journal or use a fitness app to monitor your intake and exercise. Having a workout partner can help you stay motivated and accountable. Reward yourself for achieving your goals with non-food rewards, such as a new book, a spa day, or a shopping spree. Focus on the positive aspects of the holiday season, such as spending time with loved ones and practicing gratitude.

Don't forget to incorporate healthy ingredients into your holiday meals, such as lean proteins, whole grains, and plenty of vegetables. If you attend a buffet, choose your food wisely and avoid overeating. If you have a sweet tooth, indulge in a small portion of your favorite dessert. Skipping meals can lead to overeating later in the day. Adequate sleep helps regulate hormones that control hunger and satiety.

By following these tips, you can enjoy the holiday season without compromising your health goals. Remember, it's all about balance and moderation. Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear.  Have a nice day.

Primer Power: A Guide to Eye Primers

Free Makeup Eye Shadow photo and picture

Eye primer, a relatively new addition to the makeup world, has quickly become a must-have product for many. It acts as a base for your eyeshadow, helping it to adhere better, last longer, and appear more vibrant. Let's delve into the different types of eye primers and their benefits.

First, silicone-based primers which provide a smooth silky texture and is excellent at filling in lines and pores.  It creates a long-lasting base for eyeshadow. This type of eye primer can be too slippery for some, may not work well with cream eyeshadows. It is best for oily skin, creating a smooth canvas, and long-lasting eyeshadow.

If you don't need a silicone-based primer, check out the cream based primers.  They are hydrating which helps blend eyeshadows seamlessly and can be used to add a pop of color to the eyelid. Unfortunately, this eye primer may not be suitable for oily skin and can crease if not set with powder. It is best for dry skin, creating a dewy look, and blending eyeshadows effortlessly.

On the other hand, there are powder primers which provide a matte finish to help control oil while setting other primers, and can be used as a standalone eyeshadow base. This eye primer can be drying and may not  provide as much grip as other primers. It is best for oily skin, setting other primers, and creating a matte eyeshadow look.

When choosing the correct eye primer, consider factors such as skin types, desired finished, and longevity. Oily skin benefits from silicone-based or powder primers, while dry skin may prefer cream-based primers. Regular skin does well with a lightweight eye primer.  If you want a matte finish, opt for a powder primer. For a dewy finish, a cream-based primer is ideal.  If you need long-lasting eyeshadow, a silicone-based primer is a great choice.

To apply the eye primer, you need to make sure  your eyelids are clean and free of any oil or moisturizer. Use your fingertips or a small brush to apply a thin layer of primer to your eyelids. Gently blend the primer until it's evenly distributed. For oily skin, lightly dust a translucent powder over the primer to set it.

There are some great benefits associated with eye primer.   Eye primer helps your eyeshadow stay put for hours, preventing fading and creasing. Primer creates a smooth base that allows eyeshadows to adhere better, resulting in more vibrant and intense colors. Primer fills in fine lines and pores, creating a smooth canvas for eyeshadow application. By keeping your eyelids hydrated and preventing excess oil, primer helps to reduce creasing.

By incorporating an eye primer into your makeup routine, you can achieve stunning, long-lasting eye looks that will stay flawless all day long. Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear.  Have a great day.

Seasonal Switch: Refreshing Your Wardrobe on a Budget

Free Wardrobe Clothes photo and picture

As the seasons change, so does our wardrobe. But updating your closet doesn't have to break the bank. With a few clever strategies, you can refresh your style without spending a fortune. It won't take much to stay up with seasonal changes, just follow these suggestions.

Begin with cleaning out your closet.  Look in your wardrobe to weed out all the items you no longer wear or love and either donate or sell them.  At the same time, Take note of what's missing. Do you need a new pair of boots for fall or a lightweight summer dress?  Think about building  a core collection of versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched. Focus on quality over quantity.

Next, embrace the idea of thrifting and using consignment.  Explore thrift stores, garage sales, and consignment shops for unique finds at affordable prices. Focus on well-made items that will last. Don't be afraid to alter because a tailor can transform a thrifted piece into a perfect fit.

In addition, consider using the art of layering. This extends your wardrobe when you layer pieces to create new outfits. A light summer dress can be paired with a cardigan or jacket for fall.  Furthermore, accessorize wisely with scarves, hats, and belts since they can add personality and warmth to your outfits.

Look at making changes to some wardrobe pieces yourself.  Give old clothes a new life with DIY projects. You can dye, paint, or embellish them. Learn basic sewing skills so you can do simple alterations like hemming, shortening,  or adding a patch, trim, or sparkles to  extend the life of your clothes.

Iff you have to shop, wait for sales.  Keep an eye out for seasonal sales and discounts or shop off season.  Buy items for the next season when they're on sale.  Invest in quality basics because a well-made pair of jeans or a classic white shirt will last for years.

For special occasions or important events, explore rental services.  Consider renting special occasion dresses or trendy pieces rather than owning the clothing that is seldom worn.  Look at swapping clothing with friends to  refresh your wardrobe without spending a dime.

By following these tips, you can create a stylish and functional wardrobe without breaking the bank. Remember, fashion is about expressing yourself, not spending a fortune. So, have fun, experiment, and let your personality shine through your clothes.  Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear.  Have a great day.

Winter Workout: Staying Fit When It's Cold Outside

Free Snowshoe Sport photo and picture

Winter can be a challenging time to stay active, especially if it is cold with snow outside, but it doesn't have to be a reason to let your fitness goals slip. Here are some tips to keep you moving, no matter the weather:

If you live in a cold, snowy climate consider embracing winter sports such as snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice skating, or even sledding.  Snow shoeing is a  great low-impact workout that can be enjoyed in various terrains, from gentle trails to steep slopes.   On the other hand, cross-country skiing is a full-body workout that burns calories and strengthens your core.   Ice skating is a fun and effective way to improve balance, coordination, and cardiovascular health.   Sledding is a thrilling way to get some exercise and enjoy the winter wonderland.

If it's too cold to go outside, think about using indoor workouts such as home workouts by utilizing online fitness classes or create your own workout routine using bodyweight exercises like squats, lunges, push-ups, and planks.   If needed, join a gym. You can take advantage of indoor facilities like treadmills, ellipticals, and weight machines. Consider group fitness classes for motivation and variety.

If you live in a warmer climate where it doesn't snow, think about hiking, biking or practicing outdoor yoga in a park or in your back yard.  Go out and explore various local trails and parks.  Check out botanical gardens, or even fitness trails at the local parks. Take advantage of warmer temperatures and enjoy a bike ride.  For indoor workouts, you can still do home workouts, or join a gym.  Take up a new activity such as signing up for a dance class where you learn a new skill while having fun and burning calories.

In general, dress in layers anytime you go outside as it allows you to adjust to changing temperatures.  Don't forget to stay hydrated. Even though you may not feel as thirsty in cold weather, it's important to drink plenty of water. Always warm-up before you begin exercising because it helps you prevent injuries and prepare your body for physical activity. At the end of the session, cool down since it helps reduce muscle sourness while aiding in recovery.  Listen to your body.  If you're feeling unwell, take a break. If you find it difficult to workout by yourself, get a workout buddy.  Having a workout partner can help you stay motivated and accountable.

By incorporating these tips into your routine, you can stay fit and healthy throughout the winter months. Remember, the key to staying active is finding activities you enjoy. Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear.  Have a great weekend.

How To Keep Your Colored Hair Vibrant.

Free Blue Hair Hair photo and picture

You've achieved a stunning hair color and you are excited to have it, but maintaining its vibrancy can be a challenge. Today, we'll look at some ways to keep your hair color vibrant for longer so it looks wonderful for a longer period of time.

First, you need to select the correct hair products. Consider color-safe shampoos and conditioners because these products are specially formulated to preserve color and prevent fading. Look for sulfates-free options to minimize color stripping. Use hair masks since deep conditioning treatments can help hydrate and nourish your hair, keeping it healthy and vibrant. Opt for color-safe masks to protect your color. If you use heat styling tools, always apply a heat protectant spray to shield your hair from damage.

In addition, minimize how often you wash your hair. Washing your hair too frequently can strip away color. Try to wash your hair every other day or every two days to preserve the color. When you use a conditioner, select a color-depositing conditioner. A color-depositing conditioner can help refresh your hair color between salon visits. Choose a conditioner that matches your hair color to maintain vibrancy.

Second, limit the amount of heat styling your hair is exposed to. Excessive heat styling can damage your hair and fade the color. Try to air-dry your hair whenever possible. If you must use heat styling tools, keep the temperature low and use a heat protectant spray.

Third, protect your hair from the sun. Sun exposure can fade your hair color. Wear a hat or use hair products with UV protection to shield your hair from the sun's harmful rays. At the same time, avoid chlorine. Chlorine can severely damage your hair and strip the color. Before swimming in a chlorinated pool, wet your hair with clean water to minimize chlorine absorption. Consider using a swim cap to protect your hair.  Furthermore, avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach and permanent dyes as they can damage your hair and fade the color. Limit the use of these products and opt for gentler alternatives. Schedule regular salon visits for touch-ups and professional treatments. Your stylist can recommend the best products and techniques to maintain your hair color.

By following these tips, you can keep your hair color looking vibrant and beautiful for longer. Remember, consistency is key. Incorporate these practices into your hair care routine to enjoy long-lasting, stunning hair color. Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear.  Have a great day.

Hair Color Techniques.

Free Woman Hair photo and picture

Some days, you don't want to dye your hair all one color.  Sometimes, you want highlights, lowlights, shadow roots, etc rather than going for an all brown shade.  Hair color techniques have evolved, offering a plethora of options to enhance your natural beauty. Here's a breakdown of some of the most popular techniques defined, along with the pros and cons for each one:

Highlights and Lowlights

  • Highlights: Involve lightening specific sections of hair to create a sun-kissed effect. They can be subtle or dramatic, depending on the desired outcome.

    • Best for: Those seeking a natural, low-maintenance look or adding dimension to darker hair.
    • Pros: Adds depth and texture, customizable, less damaging than traditional bleaching.
    • Cons: Requires regular touch-ups, time-consuming, may not suit fine or damaged hair.
  • Lowlights: The opposite of highlights, involving darkening specific sections of hair. They add depth, contrast, and richness to lighter hair colors.

    • Best for: Those with lighter hair wanting depth and dimension, or transitioning from lighter to darker color.
    • Pros: Low-maintenance, adds depth and richness, can help blend gray hair.
    • Cons: May require more frequent touch-ups, can be more damaging than highlights.

Shadow Roots

  • Involves leaving the roots of your hair a darker shade than the rest of your hair. This creates a seamless blend between your natural hair color and the highlighted or dyed ends.
    • Best for: Those wanting to minimize maintenance of highlighted or dyed hair, or those seeking a more natural, lived-in look.
    • Pros: Low-maintenance, creates a natural-looking gradient, can help blend gray hair.
    • Cons: May not suit everyone, requires regular touch-ups to maintain the shadow root.

Ombre and Balayage

  • Ombre: Involves a gradual transition from a darker root color to a lighter color at the ends of the hair. This creates a soft, blended look.

    • Best for: Those wanting a trendy, effortless look, or those transitioning to a lighter hair color.
    • Pros: Low-maintenance, creates a stylish and modern look, adaptable to various hair colors and lengths.
    • Cons: May require more frequent touch-ups, can be more damaging than other techniques.
  • Balayage: A French word meaning "to sweep," balayage involves painting color onto the hair, creating a sun-kissed, natural-looking effect.

    • Best for: Those seeking a low-maintenance, natural-looking highlight.
    • Pros: Very natural-looking, low-maintenance, less damaging than traditional foiling techniques.
    • Cons: Can be more expensive and time-consuming than traditional highlights, may not be suitable for very short hair.

Money Piece

  • A technique that involves highlighting the two front pieces of hair, framing the face and adding brightness.
    • Best for: Those wanting to add dimension and brightness to their face without committing to a full head of highlights.
    • Pros: Low-maintenance, can brighten the face, can be customized to suit different hair colors.
    • Cons: May not be suitable for all face shapes, requires regular touch-ups to maintain the brightness.

Split Dyeing

  • Involves dividing the hair into sections and dyeing each section a different color. This technique is bold and eye-catching, allowing for endless creativity.
    • Best for: Those not afraid to experiment with bold and unique looks, or those wanting to make a statement.
    • Pros: Highly customizable, allows for creative expression, adaptable to various hair lengths and textures.
    • Cons: High-maintenance, requires regular touch-ups, may not be suitable for all hair types.

Choosing the Right Technique

When selecting a hair color technique, consider your lifestyle, hair type, and desired outcome. Consult with a professional hairstylist to determine the best technique for your individual needs. Remember, the key to beautiful hair is regular maintenance and using high-quality hair care products. Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear.  Have a great day.

Sorry

Free Fiji Flag vector and picture

I have spent the last four weeks traveling from home to Tokyo, Sydney, Christchurch, and Fiji. My last stop was in Fiji and the internet accessibility is not the greatest.  The hotel I stayed at, had internet but I was only allowed a total of two devices but I used a tablet rather than my computer.  If I wanted to use my computer, I had to disconnect, relog in, and hop it worked.  Then it took me about two days to finally get home.  Long story short, I didn't get a chance to prepare the blog entries for this week.  I will be back to normal next week.
