What Ingredients Can You Use In Do It Yourself Facial Products

Last time, we explored the products one should not use in any homemade product, so today, we are looking at ingredients one can use safely in the product. If you want to make products at home, it is always good to use ingredients that are both safe and good for your skin.

The thing about ingredients for do it yourself products is they can be broken into two groups. The first are ingredients that are easily found in the kitchen while the second group are ingredients that are healthy but have to be purchased specifically.

One ingredient that is considered relatively safe to use on the face is honey.  Honey is considered to be a natural humectant so it helps retain moisture in the skin.  It also helps with the natural bacteria found on the skin and improves healing while reducing inflammation. In addition, honey in its raw state can be used as an exfoliant to remove old, dry skin while encouraging new skin growth. To get the best results, one should use unpasteurized honey so it contains the most goodness.

Another ingredient is yogurt but make sure to purchase the plain version.  Make sure it has no added sugar or even vanilla and that it is full of active bacteria. yoghurt is said to be filled with lactic acid which can help exfoliate your skin while brightening it. In addition, it is said that yoghurt is able to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.  I did come across a small blurb that said, the efficacy of yoghurt as an exfoliant is to as effective as glycolic, lactic, salicylic, or manic acid based products due to its near neutral pH.

Oatmeal is another ingredient recommended to use in homemade facial products.  Ground up oatmeal is good to use as an exfoliant which gets rid of dirt, oil, and dead skin cells.  In addition, it is great at helping sooth and improve dry skin.  When oatmeal is ground up, it does not have the sharp edges so it is safe to use on the face.

Check your fridge for cucumbers as they are known for helping to hydrate and refresh the skin due to its high water content. This makes it ideal for people with dry skins. Cucumbers are best known for helping to reduce puffy eyes by simply placing slices over the eyes and relaxing. In addition, it can be used in a toner designed to help sooth damaged skin.

Then there is green tea which can be used on the face due to its antiinflammatory and antimicrobial properties which can help sooth inflamed skin. It can also help counter UV damage, premature aging, and help sooth irritation. In addition, green tea doesn't cost much and is easy to find.

These are just a few ingredients that you are most likely to have around the house already and that come recommended for use in do it yourself facial products.  Although you'll find recipes out there recommending a variety of things from lemon juice to green tea, it is best to know which ones are safe to use.  Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear.  Have a great day.
