The Top 10 Hits of All Time!

When spring arrives, I start hearing more music in my head.  The other day it was something from the movie Grease.  This morning it was "House of the Rising Sun" because the sun was already enough for it to be light at 7:00 A.M.  Songs tend to pop in my head once spring arrives.  It almost like the music is my personal garden and starts to grow about now.  When it gets cold and dark, the music runs away and hibernates much like a bear or my perenials.

Have you ever wondered what songs are so wildly popular, they stay around for a long time?  I remember the popular songs from when I was young.  I have a familiarity with 40's music due to a family member who is much older and played swing all the time.

I went to Billboard because they tend to rank and follow music trends since I don't know when.  They have a list on the Greatest of all Time - Hottest 100 singles.  The top 10 are sprinkled with both old ones from the 50's and 60's and more recent ones from The Black Eyed Peas.  The first time I heard of the Black Eyed Peas I wondered why a food would be singing.  On to the list.

7.Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix) The dance to this song really made it around the world.  I saw it being done to Eskimo Drums one time with the exact same movements.

I though more of the Beatles numbers would be on the list because they started the screaming teenager phenomena.  I remember seeing clips on You Tube showing wild screaming almost out of control girls.

Music soothes the soul......

We all love certain types of music.  Some people like only very specific types of music, others like a greater variety of music.  My tastes are rather eclectic but my dad loves swing/big band type music.  You should see he and my mom get up and dance.  They can still cut a rug even when my dad is decked out in his kilt!  It really isn't hard for me to select music for him because I'm familiar with it.

If I had to select music for many of my young friends, I would have way too much trouble.  I have no idea of the types of rap music or who is currently the favorite.  I really don't like it so it would be hard for me.  However, my uncle had a unique way of selecting music for my father. 

A bit of background.  My father served a couple terms in the navy and loved to listen to records.  This was before CD's and tapes.  My uncle would go into music stores so he could get a couple of new releases to send to my dad when he was out at sea.

His method was to go into the music store, listen to a few samples of big band music, and select the ones he hated the most!  You read that right, he chose the ones he hated the most.  My uncle loved classical music so it was hard for him to choose music for my dad.

My dad said that the music my uncle sent was some of the best put out at that time!  He said it worked every single time and my dad ended up with a great selection!

I think if I ever have to buy rap music for anyone, I'll use the same method.........LOL
