Ok, I decided to start doing yoga because everyone says how great it is for stretching, building strength and flexibility. Several coworkers have recommended it and so I decided to go for it. I have quite a collection of exercise DVD's I've collected because they were on sale.
So I pulled out the Yoga in 10 min one. It had 5 different 10 min yoga routines that could be worked individually or put together to make a custom routine. I figured since I've never really done it before, I'd start with the basics.
Ohhh my! Talk about being way out of my comfort zone! I did ok for the warm-up, barely made it through the Sun Salutation without hurting myself, hit the downward facing dog which quickly turned into downward falling Lee but when they had me hold a leg up while in downward facing dog, I gave up. Yup, I gave up after 6 minutes into the 10 min routine.
I was debating if I wanted to even try it again or look for a different DVD when today's mail arrived and in it was a yoga DVD for absolute beginners. Talk about perking up! I decided to try it. I saved it to end my exercise session tonight. It was one of those AM/PM ones with different routines for morning and evening. I tried the relaxation one for the PM and guess what? I did it, felt good and didn't spend half my time falling flat on my face!
So tomorrow night, I'm going to try the yoga routine for mobility and flexibility. It seems to be a bit more relaxed and isn't going into the twist yourself into a pretzel variety. It makes me feel much more hopeful. I usually do dance, aerobics, and occasionally kickboxing but I've realized I need to add a few things to improve my flexibility and strength so I'm trying to add a bit of this and that to do it.
You might be wondering what this has to do with Paradise? It more like, I discovered I can't touch my toes so I need to work a bit so I can do that again. That would be one form of Paradise, my being able to actually touch my toes again......LOL
That first DVD sounded way to hard for a beginner. And when I've been in yoga class they emphasize that every body is different - even on different days. It's important to breath and just do what YOUR body can do on that day. So glad the 2nd DVD worked out for you!
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to find DVDs that were not that strenuous. I am happy with the two or three I found and use regularly.
DeleteAll the best meeting up with your toes again. It has got to be good for you :)
ReplyDeleteIt will be a while but I really enjoy it as I don't feel like I'm killing myself.
